CASTELDELFINO – COLLE SAMPEYRE – COLLE BICOCCA
km 45
Route: mixed (asphalt and dirt)
Gradients: 1.100 m
Difficulty level: difficult
The itinerary is characterized by much km of asphalt road but it is very satisfying
from a landscape point of view.
Start out from Casteldelfino along the river bank of the Varaita torrent up to hamlet Torrette, following downstream the forestal track used for the cross country skiing.
To follow the asphalt road until Sampeyre, the climb is hard between woods of conifers and clearings destined to the mountain pasture, after 2.000 meters the vegetation changes and leaves the
place to rhododendrons and prairies.
To the summit of the Colle Sampeyre (mt. 2.284) has end the asphalt road, you ignore the road that goes down toward Stroppo and Elva, you take to the right towards the military road known as
Strada dei Cannoni, the path is all ups and down along the hillside until to reach the Colle della Bicocca (2.285 mt)
To the summit of the climb you pass onto the northern mountain-side of the Vallone del Bellino, here it needs to watch out for the nicks white-red of the GTA that mark the technical little path toward Borgata Chiesa (1.480 mt), characterized by ancient sundials painted on the walls.
The last few kilometers are downhill on the asphalt road until to the point of
departure.
